Ozenmunaigas estimated its damage from Zhanaozen clashes at over 1.2 billion tenge ($8 million), Tengrinews.kz reports citing Rashid Saulebayev, a lawyer of Mangistau Bar who represents KazMunaiGas EP. "The building of Ozenmunaigas industrial office was badly damaged, the accounting department was burnt down. As the company is using an electronic accounting system and all documents are stored in Astana, all the proprty information was restored. A commission fully inspected all the premises. Inventory registrars were made and compared to the documents. The damage was calculated based on that procedure," the lawyer said. According to Saulebayev, the amount calculated by the special commission is not full, as Aru Ana hotel owned by Ozenmunaigas was destroyed completely. In this relation the commission decided to state the residual cost of the building: 719 million tenge ($4.9 million). The lawyer pointed out that 18 of 37 defendants had previously worked for Ozenmunaigas. In the first half of the hearing the judge reviewed the motions of the defendants' lawyers. The prosecutors then read the charges on Zhanaozen clashes. They gave the details on preparation of the clashes, read extracts from telephone conversations and e-mails of the organizers. The damages caused by each of the accused were announced as well.
