Mercedes-Benz is to enter the customs registry of intellectual property to protect Kazakhstan market from counterfeit spare parts, Director General of Blue Star Kazakhstan (official dealer of Daimler AG) Kairat Beisebayev told Tengrinews.kz. "We have submitted the documents to the customs control commission and they are being reviewed at the moment. There are several benefits to entering the registry: first of all, the import of duplicates, i.e. counterfeits, will stop and secondly the import of cars non-adapted for Kazakhstan market will be suspended," Beisebayev said. Earlier Toyota and Lexus trademarks were included into the registry. According to Beisebayev, the cars imported to Kazakhstan by the company are equipped with so-called Eastern package. Such cars, according to him, are equipped with a strengthened suspension, improved battery and other modifications adapted for Kazakhstan market. "There is a common mistake that if I import a car from the U.S., change miles to kilometers, gallons to liters, Fahrenheits to Celsium, that's enough. In fact the cars meant for the U.S. market should not be driven along our roads. Local roads will shorten the service life of such cars," Beisebayev said. He also added that the application submitted to the customs control commission of Kazakhstan Ministry of Finance includes all the necessary information on original Mercedes-Benz spare parts. "The application has many attachments, including pictures and descriptions of original Mercedes-Benz spare parts, what they look like, how they are numbered and how to identify them. This has to be included into the customs database," Director General explained. "Of course, there will be some reaction at the market, but I don't think it will be significant. When we say duplicates, we mean counterfeit goods marked with Marcedes-Benz trademark. There are many spare parts, for Mercedes as well, that are Korean- and Chinese-made. But they don't mark them as original Mercedes spare parts. Import of this kind of spare parts will continue as usual," Beisebayev said. Earlier it was reported that deficiency of Toyota and Lexus spare parts is expected in Kazakhstan, as these trademarks have been included into the customs registry of intellectual property.
