On February 25 First Vice Prime-Minister Serik Akhmetov gave several instructions on floods, Tengrinews.kz reports. He reminded the mninisters and akims on their responsibilities. "All akims and ministers attended the extended government meeting led by the President. And you remember that he paid special attention to this issue (control over emergency situation). The Government controls this issue and I would like to remind all the heads of their responsibilities. It is understandable that nature makes its own plans. But all this can be prevented. It just requires control," Akhmetov said. He instructed the Ministries of Agriculture and Emergency Situations to focus on reinforcing dams and other hydrotechnical facilities. Emergency offices have to work round the clock. Heads of the regions and state authorities have to have an emergency plan, according to Akhmetov. "Do not forget that the floods will be over and the sowing season will start. We have to have a maximum volume of water that the villagers will need. If we get scared now and drain all the water, this will make the villagers suffer later," Serik Akhmetov added. First Deputy Prime-Minister instructed Akim (Governor) of South-Kazakhstan oblast to be attentive to the victims of the floods in the region. Earlier Minister Bozhko expressed his concerns over the situation in western regions of Kazakhstan.
