Kazakhstan CEC announced preliminary results of elections

Kazakhstan Central Election Commission has announced preliminary results of Kazakhstan parliamentary elections, Tengrinews.kz reports. The following preliminary results were announced: Nur Otan (80.74 percent), Ak Zhol (7.46 percent), Communist People’s Party of Kazakhstan (7.2 percent), National Social-Democratic Party (1.59 percent), Kazakhstan Social-Democratic Party Auyl (1.46 percent), Party of Patriots of Kazakhstan (0.89 percent), Democratic Party Adilet (0.66 percent). On January 15 Kazakhstan residents were electing Majilis deputies (lower chamber of the Parliament). After the elections the country’s parliament will have to become at least a bipartisan one. Kazakhstan President and the deputies had raised the issue of multi-party parliament several times. According to the changes made into the laws, in case the 7-percent threshold is overcome by one party, the next party with the most number of votes can get seats as well.
