Fuel prices went a quarter up in 2011 in Kazakhstan

Petrol prices went 24 percent up in Kazakhstan in 2011, while diesel fuel prices increased 26.2 percent, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Statistics Agency. “Food prices went up and fuel prices increased sharply. At the same time sugar prices went 18.7 down. That’s why the ones driving cars had a difficult year, while those who love sweets, perhaps, ate more,” chairman of Kazakhstan National Bank Gregory Marchenko said at the press-conference in Almaty. According to the Agency, petrol and diesel fuel prices went up the most among non-food goods. Meanwhile, utilities got 6.5 percent more expensive. Electricity went 10.3 percent up, sewage prices increased by 9.9 percent and cold water got 8.8 percent more expensive. As for food, groats experienced the most prices growth: 43.3 percent, including buckwheat (54.7 percent up) and millet (44 percent up). Prices for meat and meat products went 23.2 percent up, while milk products got 8.9 percent more expensive. Sugar got 18.7 percent cheaper and the prices for fruits and vegetables went 3.5 percent down.
