Many former Majilis members are not on the candidates list

A substantial part of the former members of the Majilis (Lower Chamber of the Parliament) who signed the letter to Kazakhstan President requesting to dissolve the chamber did not get into Nur Otan's list of candidates for the coming elections. According to Tengrinews.kz, 30 Majilis deputies of 4th parliament who signed the request did not get into the list. 48 deputies of the 4th parliament are on the list, however. This means that should all of them be elected, the new parliament will have almost a half of the members from the previous one. The other 79 candidates include 2 members of the government (Minister of Environmental Protection and chairman of Competition Protection Agency), 12 akims (including 3 oblast akims (Governors) and akim (Major) of Almaty), 5 presidents of university and 1 university principle. 2 singers and 4 sportsmen (3 of them are Olympic champions) are also on the list along with Kazakhstan Secretary of State, chairman of Accounts Commission and one holder of the People’s Hero award. The name of Dariga Nazarbayeva on the list turned out to be the most discussed one. She is presented in the list as Chairman of the Executive Commission of Kazakhstan Journalists’ Congress. First deputy chairman of Nur Otan party Nurlan Nigmatulin is also included in the list. If he gets into the Majilis, he will be neighboring his twin brother Senator Yerlan Nigmatulin. Well-known former Majilis deputies who did not get into the party list include Bakhyt Syzdykova, Bekbolat Tleukhan, Irak Yelekeyev, Sat Tokpakbayev, Vladimir Nekhoroshev, Tito Syzdykov.
