Astana is hosting regional conference of International Association of Prosecutors

Conference of the International Association of Prosecutors in Astana Conference of the International Association of Prosecutors in Astana

Regional conference of the International Association of Prosecutors started in Astana on October 5, Tengrinews.kz reports. This is the first time the meeting of prosecutors is held in Kazakhstan. The conference is attended by prosecutors from 42 countries, representatives of the United Nations, OSCE and Eurojust. Participants of the conference are discussing the role of prosecution in protection of social-economic rights of the citizens, entrepreneurs and children. It is expected that the participants will also discuss the role of controlling authorities in ensuring observance of laws governing public interests, public security, freedom of faith, international concordance and protection of rights of victims of human trafficking. Kazakhstan entered the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) two years ago. It is studying the experience of other IAP member-states, first deputy of Kazakhstan Prosecutor General noted. “We have to protect not only people's labor rights. Today Prosecutor General of Czech Republic gave an example of how they interfered into construction of a subway, when the works deviated from the project. Maybe we have to focus on architecture as well. As the new capital is being constructed and there are a lot of construction going on throughout the whole Kazakhstan. Maybe we need to look deeper into the issues of this sector,” Iogan Merkel told the journalists. International Association of Prosecutors was established in 1995. Representatives of 54 countries are members of this Association. IAP is trying to reach openness in activities of prosecutors.
