Almost 30 percent of Kazakhstan residents anticipate manifestations of religious extremism at the territory of the country, Express K reports. Only 7 percent of the country residents were expecting extremism 5 years ago. 52 percent of respondents anticipate extremism in western Kazakhstan. Respondents think that West-Kazakhstan, Aktobe, Atyrau and South-Kazakhstan oblasts are the most extremism-prone areas. Residents of supposed hot spots talk about inefficiency or insufficient efficiency of the efforts taken by special services to tackle the manifestations. 77 percent of respondents in western Kazakhstan give negative assessment to the efficiency of the law enforcement authorities. The research was made by the Institute of Political Solutions (IPS). The poll involved 2.3 thousand people, residents of Astana, Almaty and 14 oblast centers of Kazakhstan. Earlier former deputy Defense Minister Amirbek Togussov said that Kazakhstan is not ready to counter social extremism. He criticized special operations on elimination of terrorists in Aktobe oblast, Atyrau and Almaty. He thinks that management of these operations was unsatisfactory. An ppinion poll by the Insitute of Political Solutions on region in Kazakhstan that includes a question about expectations of terrorist acts can be viewed on our website in the Studies & Opinions section.
