Four members of K2 expedition reached the third camp

Four participants of the international expedition to K2, also known as Chogori, have reached the third camp at the height of 7100 meters, in spite of the snow and strong wind, Kazakh climber Maksut Zhumayev wrote in his blog. “A strong wind was blowing all day today. It took us 6 hours to reach the third camp. There was a lot of snow in places at the crest. We have spent much effort fighting the find blowing snow in our faces. Everything is ok!" he said. The ascending team includes Maksut Zhumayev from Kazakhstan, Vassiliy Pivtsov also from Kazakhstan, Gerlinda Kaltenbrunner from Austria and Darek Zaluski from Poland. Ralf Dujmovits from Germany and Tommy Heinrich from Argentina have returned to the base camp. This is the team’s fifth ascent to the K2 slopes during the past 2 months. And it is supposed to be the final one. A camel caravan in scheduled to pick up the climbers and their equipment from the Chinese base camp on August 23. Chogori is located in the Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
