On Saturday April 6 the international expedition to K2 had to stop for the night at the height of approximately 7800 meters not far from the place of the fourth camp. The goal of this ascent is to set the forth camp that is to become the summit camp, Kazakh member of the team Maksut Zhumayev wrote in his blog. On August 6 they manage to set about 600 meters of railing rope from the third camp along the route to the summit of Chogiry, the outmost northern 8-thousander of the world. Only 100-200 meters were left to the fourth camp, according to Zhumayev. “We are setting tents to get some rest. We will cover the remaining 100-200 meters and set the fourth camp tomorrow (on August 7),” Zhumayev wrote in his blog. He added they stopped at the very same place where they spent a night during their expedition to K2 in 2007. Chogori is 8,611 meters high. So to reach the peak the team will have to cover another 811 meters of height. One the next day, August 7, the team had to stay in the tent because of wet snow, Zhumayev wrote in this blog. “We are sitting in the tent at the height of 7800 meters. We were planning to set out at 8 in the morning, but there is a wet snow. We will have to wait till 1 p.m., if it stops snowing we will go higher, work on the route and set the 4th camp. If it doesn’t stop snowing we will have to decide what to do next. Ralf says that tomorrow (August 8) the weather will be good,” he wrote. The goal of the fourth ascent the team is making now is to set the summit camp at the height of 8000 meters. The international expedition to K2 includes Maksut Zhumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov from Kazakhstan, Gerlinda Kaltenbrunner from Austria, Ralf Dujmovits from Germany, Darek Zaluski from Poland and Tommy Heinrich from Argentina. Chogori is located in the Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
