Participants of the international expedition to K2 reached the height of 7,400 meters for the first time on July 22, Kazakhstan alpinist Maksut Zhumayev told Tengrinews.kz. “We fulfilled today's plan for 100 percent and even more. We scheduled to work on the next 800 meters to the third camp and we did it. Moreover, we found lots of ropes on our way. They were left by our Kazakhstan expedition in 2007. We used about 700 meters of these ropes and saved our own,” Zhumayev said. According to the alpinists, they concerns that the weather might worsen did not confirm. “The weather is good for working. There was a stong wind, but it will calm down tomorrow, according to forecasts. That means we have two days to finish the third advancement. The route is also good. Perspectives are very good. Tomorrow (on June 23) we plan to reach the third camp which we will set at 7,400m. We will spend a night over there and then go back to the base camp for rest.” The night of July 22 was the first acclimatization night at 6,550m for Kazakhstan alpinists Maksut Zhumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov. “I cannot say a lot. We could not sleep for a long time. Then we watched a couple of movies on the phones and went to bed. There is a slight headached but we feel good in general. I cannot say we slept well. There was a rope hanging somewhere outside that was dangling with the wind so we had a feeling that somebody were knocking. We woke up at 5 a.m. and went to work. There is nothing we can do about it, we will have a good sleep in the base camp,” the sportsman added. Chogori is located in Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
