Participants of the international expedition to K2 are preparing for the second trip to Chogori, despite of the landslide threat, Kazakhstan alpinist Maksut Zhumayev told Tengrinews.kz. “We decided to move to the second camp on July 12. The forecasts promise us a good weather for three-four days. We hope that snow that fell for the last couple of days will clear up and will not pose a threat so that we will be able to work. The team is now in a working mood, nobody is sick, despite of small injuries. Everyone is in a good mood,” Zhumayev said. The expedition has already moved all necessary equipment from the intermediate camp the first camp during the previous trip to the mount. The alpinist does not comment on the strategy for the new attempt to ascend the mount yet. He says they need to reach the first camp first. “We will evaluate the situation and take the decision, whether we will work in twos or threes or all together. Our task for this time is to set the second camp and to study the route from the second to the third camp.” Besides six alpinists (Maksut Zhumayev and Vassiliy Pivtsov from Kazakhstan, Ralf Dujmovits from Germany, Gerlinda Kaltenbrunner from Austria, Tommy Heinrich from Argentina and Darek Zaluski from Poland) there are two cooks and a guide in the base camp. Earlier Tengrinews.kz English reported that the team decided to have less personnel and made a contest for the cooks. “Abdul won the contest. We decided that he is more experienced and cooks better. But still we decided to keep both: the guide went home and Mukhamed and Abdul stayed with us.” Chogori is located in Karakorum mountain system in Kashmir province at the territory of Pakistan. Its height is 8,611 meters.
