First Kazakhstan around-the-world sea expedition resumed

The first Kazakhstan around-the-world expedition Terra Vita resumed. Chokan Valikhanov yacht put off from Antigua island in the Mexican Gulf to the Caribbean Sea, Interfax-Kazakhstan reports citing Vice-President of Central-Asian Geographic Society, biker Dmitry Petrukhin. “In order to successfully pass the Caribbeans, we hired a local skipper who will take the yacht to the Panama channel. The the yacht will head to Ecuador,” said Petrukhin who is planning to join the expedition in this South-American country. Chokan Valikhanov's trip started on September 25, 2007 in Aktau. Since then the expedition crossed the Volga-Don basin, Black and Mediterranean seas. The plan is to cross32 countries. The overall cost of the project was estimated at $5.5 million in 2007. In 2008 Central-Asian Geographic Society suspended the expedition for indefinite period because of financial difficulties and the uacht was docked at Antigua island. The expedition was resumed thanks to financial support of KazMunaiGas national oil and gas company that allocated $715 thousand for this purpose. Chokan Valikhanov's crew is planning to finish the trip on December 16, the day of the 20th anniversary of Kazakhstan's independence.
