Canelo Alvarez won the fight, but will his wait pay off? None of the boxers seem eager to face Triple G after the November fight in the middleweight division. Cotto has not expressed any interest in fighting Golovkin. In fact, on numerous occasions, the Puerto Rican boxer stated that fighting Golovkin was not in his plans. When asked earlier if he had watched the Golovkin-Lemieux fight, Cotto responded with a curt "no". However, Alvarez did express interest in fighting Golovkin.

“There’s no secret that me and Miguel are not 160-pounders. Our body structure is not there yet. I would love to fight ‘GGG’ when the time and opportunity come, more than willing and able to ... when the time comes.” Alvarez told the Los Angeles Times on Thursday through a Spanish translator.

"I'm a big boxing fan, I saw (Golovkin's victory). It’s a fight that could happen. I’ve built a reputation for myself that I don't run from anybody. I want to give the fans the best fights out there. I’ll see once it comes to that day if the opportunity arises," he added.

"Saul is a natural 154-pounder. However, like every boxer he has to diet, take care of himself. I believe that in the future there are many very interesting fights for Saul. Golovkin is a great fighter with enormous prestige and we want to fight the best and he is one of them (...) Right now what's coming is Cotto - and after him, we will sit down and discuss the future, but never say never," Canelo's coach Jose Reynoso told Boxingscene.com before the victory over Cotto.

Interestingly, Cotto was facing Alvarez to defend his WBC belt  in the 155 pound catchweight instead of full 160 pound middleweight weight.

Golovkin's coach Abel Sanchez believes Alvarez should not have demand the catch-weight fight for the middleweight title. Moreover, Alvarez stated earlier that if he won the title he would not move to middleweight to defend it against Golovkin.

"Canelo hasn't got a leg to stand on if he's gonna demand to fight at catchweight, because if he can't fight at 160-pounds then he can vacate the belt and we can fight somebody else," Sanchez said via On the Ropes Boxing Radio cited by Boxingscene.com.

According to Sanchez, Golovkin is more interested in the middleweight belt than in Canelo or Cotto.

"We have a lot of respect for Canelo. (...) If Canelo figures he's a true 154-pounder, that’s OK. He gets stripped, Gennady becomes the automatic champion and it’s another step to unify the division,” Golovkin's promoter Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions said via Los Angeles Times.
