The number of imported previously-owned cars in April grows by 26.3% against the like period of 2010

In April 2011 the number of imported [previously-owned] cars grew by 26.3% against the like period of 2010, reaching 3 199 300, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing the State Agency for Statistics. The number of imported cars in April grew by 70.1% as compared to that in March. Most of the cars purchased in April are 10 years old and older. Almaty accounts for most of the purchased cars (12 821). Starting from July 1, 2011 customs duties on foreign vehicles imported to Kazakhstani will be levied in accordance with duty rates accepted in the Customs Union of Kazakhstani, Russia and Belarus. The new duty rates are significantly higher, e.g. customs duty on a Toyota Camry with an engine of 2400 cubic centimeters stood at $1380, whereas the new figure will make up $9785.
