About 25 Almaty girls celebrated May 1 by running a race in high-heeled shoes, Tengrinews.kz reports. The unusual competition was held at Zhibek Zholy Street. The participants had to run the 100-meter race. Their heels had to be at least 8 centimeters high. The girls started in threes. They were competing for the main prize of 50000 tenge ($338). Many of the participants approached the race in a smart way. They winded scotch tape around their shoes and feet to make sure the shoes don’t jump off their legs while they run. “It was the second time we’ve held this event in Kazakhstan. By running this race our girls show that they appreciate and love the friendship between ethnic groups of Kazakhstan that peacefully coexist in our country. It is our contribution to the holiday,” Denis Lazarev, organizer of the event said. He added that such races are very popular in Europe and the number of participants sometimes reaches 100 girls. Lidiya Yevtushenko was the fastest Almaty girl who got the money prize. By Vladimir Prokopenko
