Kazakhstan ranked 41st by gender situation

Kazakhstan ranked 41st out of 134 countries on gender situation, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Gulshara Abdykalikova, Kazakhstan Minister of Labor and Social Protection as saying at the sitting of the national commission on women and demographic policy. As per the Minister, currently there are 21 women in Kazakhstan parliament 14 percent of the overall number of deputies. This is almost twice more than in the previous convocation of the parliament. Around 17 percent of women serve in Maslikhats (regional local parliaments). Kostanai oblast Maslikhat leads with 89 women in its ranks - 30 percent of the members. There are 3 female ministers, 4 executive secretaries and 4 vice-ministers. 5 women are deputy Akims (Mayors). Three women are heads of regional administrations. Level of economic activity of women has increased. Children's allowances for mothers have also increased. All this helped Kazakhstan get ahead of 14 countries of the European Union in the report called Global Gender Gap Report 2010 of the World Economic Forum.
