Kazakhstan parliamentarians met with American congressmen

Kazakhstan MPs met with American congressmen in Astana. Majilis speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin met with the delegation of American parliamentarians led by Dan Burton, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe and Eurasia of the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Kazakhstan Majilis (Lower Chamber of the Parliament). In the meeting they discussed cooperation between Kazakhstan Majilis and U.S. Congress. "A group has been created in the Majilis to cooperate with U.S. congressmen. It includes 26 deputies. Kazakhstan Friends Club was established in the U.S. Congress in 2008," the press-service writes. American congressmen also noted Kazakhstan's leading role in Central Asia both in economic and political development. According to the foreign MPs, the new tripartisan Majilis is an important factor in the democratic processes in Kazakhstan. "Majilis speaker Nurlan Nigmatulin stressed the exceptional role of Kazakhstan President Nursultan Nazarbayev in achievement of the high level of understanding between Kazakhstan and the U.S. in the efforts to ensure international sustainability, nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation, countering international terrorism and extremism," the press-service states.
