Repair works have started at Taldykorgan military airdrome, Tengrinews.kz reports citing the press-service of Kazakhstan Defense Ministry. The repairs will cover the airfield's runway strip, taxiway strip, parking shelters for planes and helicopters. According to the Ministry, only minor repairs were made at the runway strip that had been operating since the beginning of 1970s. The plan is to change the runway surface and increase its length and width. The drainage system will be repaired, as well as communications, electric lines and fencing. Other facilities of the airdrome will be repaired as well. The reconstruction is done to make it possible to use the airdrome for aircrafts with high takeoff mass, improve the safety of night flights and flights in difficult weather conditions. The aerodrome's personnel and equipment were moved to Zhetyget airdrome for the repairs period.
