The number of mobile telephony and fixed Internet users in Kazakhstan, a country with a population of 17 million, grew by a third in 2011 as compared to 2010, Newskaz.ru reports.“The number of fixed Internet users in 2011 hit 1.26 million, 27.9% up against 2010. The number of mobile telephony users made up 25.2 million, 30.1% up against 2010”, according to the State Agency for Statistics.The Internet services industry grew by 53,2% as compared to 2010, with Internet services to households growing by 75.7%.According to the State Agency for Statistics, Internet users are aged 6-74. The 2011 telecom industry revenues made up $3.9 million, 23.3% up against 2010. Mobile telephony accounted for most of the revenues (50.6%).
