Most popular local TV-channels in Kazakhstan are Khabar, Kazakhstan, ORT Eurasia and El Arna, Kazakhstan Prime-Minister Karim Massimov said repling to the question of Kazakh MP Tanirbergen Berdongarov about development of media in Kazakhstan. Leaders of the periodicals rating are Iz Ruk v Ruki, Vremya, Kazakhstanskaya Pravda, Komsomolskaya Pravda and Yegemen Kazakhstan newspapers. Implementation of digital TV and radio broadcasting in Astana, Almaty and Karaganda is underway according to the action plan and will be completed by the end of 2012. Digital TV maintenance services will be provided to the population of near-border territories and 13 oblast centers starting from 2012-2013. Digital TV will cover villages of over 2 thousand people by 2015. Construction of modern TV and radio facility with up-to-date equipment in Astana is scheduled to be completed this year. “It is very important to create new TV and radio channels to improve competitiveness of the local media,” the message states. Balapan TV channel, radio Classic, Madeniet radio channel and Bilim TV-channel are part of the "new media" project.
