Kazakhstan will launch new projects in car manufacturing in 2013, Tengrinews.kz reports referring to Kazakhstan Minister of Industry and New Technologies Asset Issekeshev. “I hope that next year we will hear about several new projects in car manufacturing. I don’t want to announce them yet, but we will publicize them by the end of the year. Everything depends on the companies. On our part we will promote their export and protect them by all measures available in the CES (Common Economic Space) and the CU (Customs Union),” Issekeshev said answering the question of a senator about development of Kazakhstan’s car manufacturing. According to Minister, Kazakhstan currently has 8 companies working in car manufacturing. They are all supported by the government. “We are currently discussing industrial cooperation and integration with Russian Ministry of Industry. In particular, we are in talks about markets for two car projects in Kostanay and Ust-Kamenogorsk. We are negotiating joint implementation of the projects, division of markets, i.e. a partial industrial integration and cooperation. Our objective is to find out which markets they will consent to give us,” Minister said. Everything else, according to him, depends on the companies. “The companies should localize and update their products more aggressively, and sell them more aggressively. We still have time until 2017 to perform all this work. We have agreed with Russia and Belarus on a 5-6 years of grace period. I think that we can do a lot in this time and we see that Kostanay and Ust-Kamenogorsk car companies are being modernized very actively, and that a similar work has started in other regions of Kazakhstan. We will help as much as we can: help modernize and attract investors,” he said. By Renat Tashkinbayev
