The Hang Seng Index in Hong Kong sank 1.15 percent, or 268.81 points, to 23,056.62.
The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.34 percent, or 10.50 points, to 3,105.81 and the Shenzhen Composite Index, which tracks stocks on China's second exchange, fell 0.23 percent, or 4.81 points, to 2,064.55.
