About 5 million square meters of floor area of housing will have been commissioned in Astana by 2015, Tengrinews.kz reports, citing Astana’s Mayor Imangali Tasmagambetov. “For the recent three years over 4 million square meters of housing have been comissioned, which is over 40 000 apartments. In the nearest three years we will commission a total of 5 million square meters of housing under different programs, including two state-run programs”, Mr. Tasmagambetov said. According to the Mayor, over 21 000 people from socially vulnerable groups have applied for state-subsidized apartments. Over 3 000 municipal apartments have been put in operation for the last three years. The Mayor said that about 40 000 people move to Astana for permanent residence annually. According to the official data, Astana’s population stands at over 700 000 people.
