Imangali Tasmagambetov dispelled a myth on easy affordability of the housing, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Astana Akim (Mayor) as saying at the 16th conference of Astana branch of Nur Otan party. "The term 'affordable housing' does not mean that the state will construct the housing at its own expense and provide it to everyone free of charge. We live amid a market economy. Free housing could not be provided to everyone even during Soviet time. This is a myth. Every person has to earn their housing. They have to invest their knowledge, skills and labor in this deal. But the state has to create conditions for the housing to have affordable prices," Tasmagambetov said. Speaking of the housing affordability to Kazakhstan citizens, the Akim reminded that over 1 million square meters of housing are constructed in Astana annually. "These are very high values. Comparing to Moscow, which is tens of times bigger than Astana, they construct less housing than we do. It is understandable that this housing is commercial and unaffordable for many. That's why the instructions were made by the President to develop different mechanisms and programs to give an opportunity to different categories of people with different incomes to improve their housing conditions," the Akim said.
