In its Development Strategy, KazMunaiGas national oil and gas company of Kazakhstan has set an optimistic target to produce 15 million tons of oil from the Kashagan field in 2022, Tengrinews reports.

The gigantic field located in Kazakhstan's section of the Caspian Sea has been haunted by pipeline failures and gas leakages since its started oil production in September 2013.

The long-awaited Kashagan oil field had reached60 thousand barrels per day, after the take off, but later was suspended untill 2014 due to gas leakages that were mostly likely caused by the pipe corrosion.

According to the Strategy, in 2022, the production of oil will make 14.9 million tons. KazMunaiGas’s share will amount to 2.5 million tons.

Tengiz oilfield, the sixth largest oils field in the world, is expected to produce 39.3 million tons of oil. KazMunaiGas’s share in the amount will exceed 7.9 million tons.

Karachaganak oil field is expected to produce almost 7.8 million tons, with 776 thousand tons making the share of KazMunaiGas.
