Tengrinews.kz – Messaging exchanges and voice messages may now have legal force as part of a contract. This was stated by Majilis deputy Murat Abenov during a live Instagram broadcast.

According to Abenov, lawmakers have introduced provisions in the legislation that broaden the understanding of the form of a contract, especially as many transactions are conducted online.

"We have also outlined what constitutes a contract. We don’t always have a physical document; everything is online now. Any conversation, video recording, WhatsApp correspondence, any advertisement can be part of a contract. If we’ve been texting, if I’ve sent you money via Kaspi, if you promised a 3-year warranty — all of this constitutes a contract," Abenov said.

He emphasized that now, sellers or service providers cannot refuse obligations by claiming that no signed document exists.

"If it isn’t fulfilled, the seller can’t say, ‘We didn’t have a contract, I didn’t sign anything.’ All our correspondence will be considered part of the contract. We’ve specifically worded it this way to protect citizens. Companies have strong lawyers, but the average person isn’t protected," the deputy added.

Abenov believes this new norm will strengthen consumer rights and reduce disputes between citizens and businesses.
