Tengrinews.kz – The Central Referendum Commission (CRC) reported on two lawsuits filed following the voting day of the republican referendum. According to commission member Assel Zhanabilova, both cases were reviewed by the courts, but the plaintiffs’ claims were not upheld.

One of the lawsuits concerned the illegibility of a Braille stencil at a polling station in the Aktobe region. The second was related to challenging a precinct commission’s decision to remove an observer in Astana. Following the review, the courts rejected the claims.

According to Zhanabilova, a total of 35 appeals were received on the day of voting.

"The submitted appeals concerned issues related to the clarification of legislation on the republican referendum, the subject of the referendum, the organization of the referendum, including the work of precinct commissions and voting abroad, as well as other issues not related to the republican referendum," she said.

Some of them were forwarded to territorial commissions and relevant authorities.

According to territorial commission data, the highest number of appeals was recorded in Astana — 11, in Almaty — 6, and in the Mangystau region — 4. In Shymkent, as well as in the Abai and Kyzylorda regions, there were 3 appeals each. In the Almaty, Akmola, East Kazakhstan, Zhambyl, and Pavlodar regions — one each.

"The issues concerned the subject of the referendum, the voting process, changes to polling stations, obtaining absentee certificates, the location of polling stations, as well as possible violations on the voting day. Territorial commissions provided responses to 33 appeals in accordance with current legislation," Zhanabilova added.

The Central Referendum Commission emphasized that all of them were reviewed in accordance with established procedures. The submitted appeals and individual remarks did not have a significant impact on the voting process or the final results of the referendum.

Earlier today, the CRC announced the results of the referendum on the adoption of the new Constitution.

According to the commission, 7,954,667 citizens voted in favor of adopting the new Constitution. This is 87.15 percent of those who voted.

898,099 people voted against.
