Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed Monday to stay within international law in the hunt for the perpetrators of two bomb attacks in the city of Volgograd, AFP reports according to the United Nations. Putin made the promise in talks with UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon following the suicide blasts earlier Monday and Sunday that left at least 31 people dead. Putin "noted that the international community must work together in the fight against terrorism and commended the United Nations for its important role in coordinating efforts to fight organized crime and terrorism," said UN spokesman Martin Nesirky. "He assured the secretary general that Russia would work within the bounds of international law to bring the perpetrators to justice," Nesirky added. Ban expressed "deepest condolences" over the attacks and also called for strong international cooperation on terrorism, the spokesman said. The 15-nation UN Security Council also strongly condemned the "abhorrent and abominable attacks" in a statement. The council called on all states to "cooperate actively" with Russian authorities to bring the attackers to justice.
