Tengrinews.kz - Patrol police officers in Kazakhstan are being trained in sign language, according to the official representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Shyngys Alekeshev.
He explained that learning sign language helps police officers respond quickly and provide support to people with hearing impairments in emergency situations.
"People with special needs often find themselves in complex or dangerous situations. That’s why all our patrol officers are learning basic signs to assist and provide necessary help. This is not just a formality; it’s an important skill that can save lives," Alekeshev noted.
He added that every patrol officer must know how to sign: "Don’t worry, the police are with you, we will help you."
"This is especially important in emergency situations, where there is no time to find a translator or where a simple yet crucial message needs to be conveyed urgently. This approach allows the police to interact promptly with people with hearing impairments and makes our cities' streets safer for all citizens. Kazakhstan's police continue to work on being closer to every individual and providing help regardless of their needs," added the representative of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
September 23 marks the annual celebration of the International Day of Sign Languages.
