Kazakhstan launches investigation into 11 airports over fuel prices

Tengrinews.kz – Authorities in Kazakhstan have opened investigations into 11 airports following concerns about inflated aviation fuel prices, citing the Agency for Protection and Development of Competition.

According to the agency, market analysis revealed unjustified overpricing of jet fuel for international passenger and cargo carriers.

“Fuel sales by airports increase costs by up to 60 percent, which over the past five years has led to a 36 percent drop in cargo transportation and a 58 percent decline in international flights,” the statement said.

The agency confirmed that probes have been launched into all 11 airports suspected of setting monopolistically high prices. Checks also extend to suppliers on the secondary wholesale fuel market.
