Tengrinews.kz – Social media users reported that stand-up comedian Alibek Zhumabayev from the StandUp.ABAY project was detained and sentenced to five days of administrative arrest following a performance at a restaurant in Semey.
What happened
According to the circulating posts, the reason was a video of the performance in which the comedian used obscene language. The messages claim he “showed disrespect to society” and violated Part 1 of Article 434 of the Administrative Code.
Zhumabayev has not publicly commented on the situation, but he posted an Instagram story showing his “new home” for the coming days and attached a photo of the administrative protocol.
What police said
The regional police department of Abay Region confirmed the incident in a response to Tengrinews.
According to officials, on 22 November 2025 around 21:00, the comedian performed at a restaurant in Semey and used profanity on stage.
“The video from the event was circulated on social media and sparked wide public reaction. After reviewing the footage, police held the violator administratively liable for using obscene language in a public place,” the press service said.
They added that the comedian received five days of administrative arrest.
“Following the review of the administrative case, the court found him guilty and imposed five days of administrative arrest,” the department stated.
Police also reminded performers and event organizers of their responsibilities.
“Public events, including comedy shows, must adhere to norms of public morality and show respect to the audience. Attempts at shock value or ‘self-expression’ through obscene language in public spaces, especially when shared online, constitute a legal violation. Such actions will not go without consequences. Police will continue to take measures to prevent offenses that undermine public order and cultural conduct,” the statement said.
