Chairman of Kazakhstan Statistics Agency Alikhan Smailov has been elected to the UN Managing Committee for Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics, Tengrinews.kz reports citing Kazakhstan Statistics Agency’s press-service. “Chairman of Kazakhstan Statistics Agency Alikhan Smailov was elected to the UN Managing Committee for Global Strategy to Improve Agricultural and Rural Statistics at the 47th meeting of the Council of the heads of statistics agencies of CIS member-states,” the press-service writes. The Global Strategy’s purpose is to create a unified base for national and international statistics systems that would enable them to produce and apply the data required for decision-making in the 21st century. The managing committee on the Global Strategy is the body that takes the final decisions on the matters of the Global Strategy. It provides strategic management and control over performance of the Global Strategy. The Committee includes representatives of the regional managing committees of the countries, chairman of the UN Strategic Committee, regional partners and other leading international organizations dealing with agricultural and rural agriculture. CIS region is represented by two members in the Managing Committee: the head of one of the national statistics services and the head of one of the CIS Agricultural Ministries. By Aidana Ussupova
