Tengrinews.kz – Kazakhstanis periodically ask when the high-speed train from Astana to Almaty will be launched, which will be able to cover the distance between the cities in 10 hours. We learned the answer to this question from the press service of JSC "Passenger Transportation".
The company reminded that "the speed of the train depends primarily on the condition of the railway track, that is, the proper infrastructure."
"As well as the availability of locomotives ready to transport a train of 20 or more cars, given the high demand for the route. In addition, the age of the cars is taken into account, which can move at a speed of 200 kilometers per hour and higher. At present, taking into account these factors and the program for updating the car fleet, including new cars arriving today, it is not yet possible to cover the route from Astana to Almaty in 10 hours," the company told us.
The press service also clarified that there are no plans to launch such a train in the coming years. It is noteworthy that, for example, Talgo can take you from Astana to Almaty in 17 hours and 5 minutes.
