Tengrinews.kz - 2024 is drawing to a close, and Kazakhstanis are already making plans for the next year, wondering what weekends await them in 2025. Will there be weekends moved in honor of holidays? We decided to find out about possible changes in the schedule of working and holiday days.

In January of next year, the weekends fall on the following days.

For a five-day work week:

  • December 30 and 31 (Monday, Tuesday) - working day;
  • January 1 and 2 (Wednesday, Thursday) - day off, New Year;
  • January 3 (Friday) - working day;
  • January 4 and 5 (Saturday, Sunday) - day off;
  • January 6 (Monday) - working day;
  • January 7 (Tuesday) - day off, Orthodox Christmas.

For a six-day workweek:

  • December 30 and 31 (Monday, Tuesday) – workday;
  • January 1 and 2 (Wednesday, Thursday) – day off, New Year;
  • January 3 and 4 (Friday, Saturday) – workday;
  • January 5 (Sunday) – day off;
  • January 6 (Monday) – workday;
  • January 7 (Tuesday) – day off, Orthodox Christmas.

A similar picture awaits Kazakhstanis in May. Thursday, May 1, will be a day off, Friday, May 2, should be a workday, and May 3-4 fall on Saturday-Sunday. May 5-6 will be workdays, May 7 is Defender of the Fatherland Defender’s Day, May 8 is a workday, and May 9 is Victory Day. Here, too, in our opinion, transfers are not excluded.

In response to an official request, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection said that they are currently developing a draft order to transfer days off to 2025.

"According to Article 85 of the Labor Code, in order to rationally use working time during holidays, as well as on weekends provided for in paragraph 5 of Article 84 of the Code, the authorized labor body has the right to transfer days off to other working days.

In this regard, the ministry is currently developing a draft order to transfer days off to 2025, which will be posted on the ministry's website and on the Internet portal of open regulatory legal acts for public discussion," the department reported.

However, it is still unknown how exactly the Ministry of Labor plans to transfer the days off.

The Day of the Capital of Kazakhstan, celebrated on July 6, falls on Sunday in 2025, so we decided to find out whether there will be a transfer in this case.

"According to Article 5 of the Law "On Holidays in the Republic of Kazakhstan", if a day off and a holiday coincide, the day off is the working day following the holiday. In this case, July 6, 2025, falls on Sunday, and therefore July 7, 2025 (Monday) will be a day off," the department noted.

So in July, Kazakhstanis will have a long weekend: July 5, 6 and 7.

Kurban Ait (Eid al-Adha), which is expected to be celebrated on June 6 in 2025, will also be accompanied by a day off, since the first day of the holiday is traditionally a non-working day. However, the ministry reported that, according to information from the Spiritual Administration of Muslims of Kazakhstan, the date of the celebration may be adjusted depending on the visibility of the new moon.

Earlier, the start date of Ramadan 2025 was announced for Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstanis with a five-day workweek will have 10 days off in the last month of 2024 and another 11 days off in the first month of the new 2025.
