Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population responded to Tengrinews.kz's inquiry regarding the rescheduling of public holidays during the May celebrations in Kazakhstan.
According to the current calendar, Kazakhstan will have three additional public holidays in May: May 1 (Unity Day), May 7 (Defender of the Fatherland Day), and May 9 (Victory Day). There is one working day (Thursday) between May 7 and 9, after which Kazakhstanis with a five-day workweek will have a three-day weekend from May 9 to 11.
In this regard, Tengrinews.kz reached out to the Ministry of Labor to ask whether a day off could be moved to May 8.
The ministry clarified that the last approved holiday rescheduling was made on November 21, 2024, and only applied to the January holidays—the day off from January 5 was moved to January 3.
"No further rescheduling is planned for 2025," the Ministry of Labor stated.
It is worth noting that in 2024, the May holidays were rescheduled. However, the decision was made in mid-April, less than a month before the holidays, when the day off from Saturday, May 4, was moved to Wednesday, May 8.
