Tengrinews.kz - Shymbulak Mountain Resort has shared details on why ski passes can be blocked for violating safety rules.

According to the resort's press service, the practice of blocking ski passes was recently introduced for those who breach FIS safety regulations, endangering themselves and other visitors.

A ski pass is a plastic card that allows unlimited rides on the cable car. It must be scanned at the turnstile for each access.

Why ski passes are blocked at Shymbulak

To maintain safety and order, the resort enforces a set of rules. Violation of these rules may lead to the blocking of a ski pass:

  • Letting a snowboard slide down the slope unattended, risking injury to others.
  • Aggressive riding that creates dangerous situations for others, such as cutting people off or obstructing their view.
  • Sitting on the slope while snowboarding.
  • Sharing or transferring a ski pass, including seasonal passes (only one person can use a ski pass).
  • Entering closed trails.
  • Ignoring warning signs, such as avalanche alerts, safety nets, and trail markers.

Between January 1 and 3, 63 ski passes were blocked, with 41 cases linked to rule violations on the slopes.

"Blocking a ski pass is a last-resort measure to ensure that skiing and snowboarding are safe and enjoyable for everyone. If staff members notice that you are struggling on difficult trails, they may check your skill level and recommend that you use easier slopes," Shymbulak’s press service said.

This season, Shymbulak also introduced identity verification using a personal identification number (IIN) when purchasing ski passes through the app or website. This system aims to improve tracking of rule-breakers.

"Nevertheless, given the active development of tourism, the issue of lacking administrative regulations remains open. Proper regulation would allow resorts to impose fines and improve enforcement against violations, which would reduce risks for guests," the resort added.

Previously, an atmospheric video of a snowboarder skillfully riding at the popular Shymbulak mountain resort went viral on social media.
