Tengrinews.kz – The Ministry of Emergency Situations commented on the recent earthquake in southern Kazakhstan.
According to the seismic network of the "National Center for Seismological Observations and Research" under the MES, the earthquake occurred on March 28 at 3:56 PM Astana time, 323 kilometers southwest of Almaty.
"The energy class of the earthquake was 12.3, with a magnitude of MPV 5.7," the statement reads.
The calculated intensity (in points) was recorded as follows:
- Merke village – 4.5 points
- Kulan village – 4.1 points
- Shu city – 2.4 points
- Tole Bi village – 2.3 points
- Sarykemer village – 2.3 points
- Taraz city – 2.2 points
- Kordai village – 2.1 points
- Asa village – 2.0 points
- Moyinkum village – 1.8 points
It is worth noting that this was the second earthquake recorded in southern Kazakhstan within 24 hours.
