Tengrinews.kz - Governor of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Timur Suleimenov outlined plans to introduce a unified QR code system for all banks.
According to him, the National Payment Corporation of the National Bank will serve as the sole operator of the system.
“Currently, 90 percent of all cashless payments are processed through this system — it handles 5.9 trillion tenge per day,” Suleimenov said while speaking on the sidelines of the Senate.
He was also asked how many banks have already joined the system.
“Three banks are already connected, and nine are in the testing phase. Our goal is to connect all banks by the end of the year, either through partnerships or, in parallel, by pushing legislative amendments in Parliament that would require mandatory participation in the national QR system,” he added.
The unified QR-based payment system was first introduced last November by the National Bank and the National Payment Corporation.
