Tengrinews.kz – How will Astana Airport change in 2026–2027? Tengrinews.kz has found out the answer.
Details were shared by representatives of the international airport. Major changes are planned for 2026–2027 as part of an investment agreement with a company from the UAE.
"The key project for this period is the construction of a second runway. Construction work will begin in 2025 and continue actively through 2026–2027. Completion is expected by 2028," said Deputy Chairman for Commerce Yermek Kumyspayev.
According to him, the new runway will increase the airport’s capacity and will allow for the future reconstruction of the current runway without disrupting operations.
"In 2026–2027, the airport also plans to actively integrate biometric control points, intelligent passenger flow management systems, as well as automation of logistics and service. All changes are being implemented gradually, in accordance with projected passenger and cargo traffic growth," he added.
During this period, Kazakhstani specialists will also be trained both domestically and abroad—in aviation academies and airports in the UAE. They will be prepared to work with new digital systems, logistics, and modern equipment.
