Tengrinews.kz – More and more villagers in northern Kazakhstan are giving up alcohol. The number of settlements living without alcohol in the region has reached 21, according to Channel Seven.
Recently, residents of Baisal village in the Kyzylzhar district joined the sobriety movement.
The initiative came from local elders (aksakals), and the rest of the community — including young people — unanimously supported it.
“We can leave our doors open when we leave — no one will touch anything. We don’t drink alcohol. And now our village has this honorary title. We stand for a healthy lifestyle!” — said one of the residents.Currently, Baisal has around 60 households, mainly engaged in livestock and poultry farming.
For the villagers, giving up alcohol is seen not only as a healthy habit but also as a serious step that can change the fate of an entire generation.
Police officers also believe the initiative is effective — the number of registered crimes in the area has decreased by 14% this year.
Earlier, it was reported that 13 villages in the region had already banned alcohol. Tengrinews also wrote that 33 villages in western Kazakhstan introduced a dry law. For example, in Aliya Moldagulova’s home village, residents don’t drink and don’t even lock their doors at night. The movement for complete sobriety is also spreading in the Kyzylorda and Akmola regions.
