Tengrinews.kz - Uzbekistan is considering a proposal to allow Kazakh citizens to enter the country using only their national ID cards.
The idea involves permitting entry for up to 30 days with internal identification documents. The initiative would also apply to minors, allowing children under 16 to cross the border using so-called “kinder-passports” — an informal term for travel documents issued to children.
Authorities emphasize that the proposal is still under discussion and no official changes have been made yet. Negotiations are expected to take place over the next three months.
“This proposal is currently under review. No final decision has been made. All suggestions are being evaluated,” the National Security Committee (NSC) told reporters.
The initiative aims to boost tourism, facilitate humanitarian and business travel, increase tourist flow, create jobs, and support small and medium-sized businesses in the tourism sector.

A similar arrangement was introduced between Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in 2023, allowing citizens of both countries to cross the border using ID cards.
Earlier, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Aibek Kuantyrov announced that Kazakhstan is discussing the possibility of introducing a visa-free regime with Turkmenistan.
