Unique model of governance has formed in Kazakhstan – President Tokayev

Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev spoke at a scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

In his speech, the President recalled that in 1993, the first Basic Law of sovereign Kazakhstan was adopted, which established the country’s constitutional framework.

“In addition, the principle ‘Strong President – Influential Parliament – Accountable Government’ was enshrined. This helped ensure balance and create effective interaction within the system of power. A major political and legal innovation of historic significance was the introduction of a rule limiting the President to a single seven-year term. This is unprecedented in Kazakhstan,” said Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

The President also emphasized the creation of a unique system of governance based on new principles that make political processes in the country more manageable.

“Thus, a unique model of power has taken shape in our country. The public administration system began functioning according to new principles, which made political processes much more understandable, predictable, and transparent. In particular, a ban was introduced preventing close relatives of the President from holding top positions in the public administration system. This measure effectively curbed nepotism in government. It was a very necessary step,” the President noted.

According to Tokayev, this crucial political and legal reform, which received nationwide support, has become a constitutional innovation with no analogues in the world.
