Tengrinews.kz — Kazhydromet forecasters have issued a weather forecast for December 30, 31 and January 1.

Warm cyclone to cover Kazakhstan

A cold anticyclone is leaving the territory of Kazakhstan, giving way to a warm southern cyclone. In this regard, precipitation and a rise in air temperature are expected in a number of regions.

According to forecasters, on 30–31 December in Akmola, Pavlodar, and Karaganda regions snow and blizzards are expected. In Ulytau Region, rain is expected with a subsequent changeover to snow.

In the south of Kazakhstan, precipitation will fall mainly as rain. Across the country, icy conditions, fog, and strengthening winds with gusts are possible.

What about temperatures

The temperature background will also change. On December 30 in the north and central parts of the country, and on December 30–31 in the east, daytime temperatures will rise to between -2°C and +3°C. In the south of the republic on these days, the air will warm to +5…+15°C.

Winter in Kazakhstan

This year, the first day of winter in most regions of Kazakhstan passed without precipitation. The country experienced anomalous weather: there was not only no snow cover, but not even a hint of snowfall. According to forecasters, if such patterns persist, winters with little snow — or even none at all — may become the norm for Kazakhstan. A Tengrinews.kz correspondent looked into what this may be connected with.
