Tengrinews.kz - A court in Ust-Kamenogorsk has closed a criminal case against two Kazakh citizens who died while participating in the armed conflict in Ukraine.
The investigation into the case was conducted by the East Kazakhstan Department of the National Security Committee (NSC), according to the regional communications service.
The regional NSC department stated that pre-trial investigations had been completed under Article 172 of the Criminal Code ("Participation in foreign armed conflicts").
"In 2024, the individuals traveled to Russia, where they took part in an armed conflict on the territory of Ukraine. They died from their injuries in Donetsk Oblast. Their bodies were later repatriated to Ust-Kamenogorsk," the statement said.
A forensic examination concluded that the cause of death was "acute massive blood loss resulting from injuries caused by explosions and shrapnel."
This year, Ust-Kamenogorsk Court No. 2 closed the criminal proceedings due to the deaths of the accused, in accordance with the Criminal Procedure Code, which allows cases to be terminated upon the defendant’s death.
Article 172 of Kazakhstan’s Criminal Code provides for a prison sentence of five to nine years for participating in foreign armed conflicts.
