Tengrinews.kz - New details have emerged regarding the tragic incident that occurred in the mountains near Almaty.
Earlier reports suggested the woman may have died as a result of a rockfall on May 2 in the Alma-Arasan Gorge. However, the rescue operations unit of the Emergency Situations Ministry clarified that the tragedy occurred later—on May 4—in the area near the Gorelnik waterfall. Officials stated the incident was not related to the earlier rockfall, during which no casualties were reported.
"On May 4, at an altitude of 2,500 meters near the Gorelnik waterfall, rescuers together with medics and a canine unit discovered the body of a young woman showing no signs of life. The body was handed over to the police," the agency reported.
The official cause of death has not yet been determined. However, eyewitnesses on social media claimed that a rock fell on the woman and could not be moved manually.
According to rescue officials, more than 80 operations have been conducted in the Almaty mountains since the beginning of the year. Over 100 tourists have been located and rescued, including 20 children.
