Tengrinews.kz - President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at the airport in Astana on Thursday as she arrived in Kazakhstan for an official visit, citing the Akorda press service.

Meloni was initially expected to visit Kazakhstan on April 26–27 at the invitation of Tokayev. The two sides were set to discuss prospects for strengthening the strategic partnership between Kazakhstan and Italy.
However, due to the passing of Pope Francis, the Italian delegation’s visit and the inaugural “Central Asia – Italy” summit were postponed.
Giorgia Meloni became Italy’s first female prime minister on October 22, 2022. She previously served as Minister for Youth in Silvio Berlusconi’s fourth government. Meloni has been the leader of the Brothers of Italy party since 2014 and the European Conservatives and Reformists Party since 2020.
