Tengrinews.kz — The Regional Environmental Summit #RES2026 is taking place in Astana. President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed the high-level guests, according to Akorda.
It is reported that the heads of delegations participating in the summit arrived at the EXPO Exhibition Center.
The dialogue platform, created in cooperation with the United Nations and other international organizations, is aimed at developing a comprehensive policy and tools for the protection, restoration, and shared use of ecosystems, water and land resources, as well as the preservation of biodiversity in Central Asia.
At the opening of the plenary session of RES 2026, speeches are expected from President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov, President of Armenia Vahagn Khachaturyan, President of Mongolia Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, President of Georgia Mikheil Kavelashvili, Prime Minister of Azerbaijan Ali Asadov, UN Under-Secretary-General for Economic and Social Affairs Li Junhua, UN Deputy Secretary-General and Executive Director of the UN Environment Programme Inger Andersen, as well as Executive Secretary of the UN Economic Commission for Europe Tatiana Molcean.
It should be recalled that the Regional Environmental Summit will be held in Astana from April 22 to 24. The platform is expected to bring together Central Asian countries to develop a coordinated approach to key climate and environmental issues.
The agenda includes climate transition, adaptation to natural risks, food security, sustainable resource management, combating air pollution and waste, as well as the development of environmental and digital competencies. The summit is expected to bring together representatives of government agencies, international organizations, business, science, and civil society — around 1,500 delegates in total.
