Tengrinews.kz — Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has met with the chief justices of the member states of the Organization of Turkic States.
The President received Inam Kerimov, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of the Republic of Azerbaijan; Mederbek Satyev, Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Kyrgyz Republic; Omer Kerkez, President of the Court of Cassation of the Republic of Türkiye; Zeki Yiğit, President of the Council of State of the Republic of Türkiye; and Alisher Usmanov, First Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Court of Uzbekistan, who arrived in Astana to participate in the second conference of the supreme courts of OTS member states.

Welcoming the guests, the President of Kazakhstan noted the special role of the OTS in developing cooperation between Turkic nations.

"It must be emphasized that cooperation between the member states of this organization in the judicial and law enforcement spheres is steadily strengthening. A clear testament to this is the prestigious forum to be held tomorrow in Turkestan. The judicial system is of paramount importance for the progress and prosperity of any civilized country. Therefore, deepening ties between supreme courts fully serves the common interests of our brotherly peoples," Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.
The President emphasized that many countries today have embarked on a path of dynamic development, striving to meet the challenges of the times and keep pace with global technological changes. He also spoke of the need to join forces and act together in this direction.

"At tomorrow's conference in Turkestan, issues regarding the digitalization of the judiciary, the protection of investors' rights, and other important topics will be discussed comprehensively. This agenda is both timely and relevant. An exchange of views on these matters will undoubtedly provide a significant boost to our organization's development and bolster its prestige. As is well known, Kazakhstan supports all constructive initiatives within the OTS and will continue to do so in the future," the Head of State declared.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev briefed the meeting participants on the large-scale reforms implemented in the country in recent years. He noted that Kazakhstan's new Basic Law will come into force on July 1st.
"The Constitution is the steadfast pillar of our statehood. In accordance with the Basic Law, the protection of the country's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity is a key constitutional provision. The fundamental principles of our state's activities also include respect for citizens' rights and freedoms, ensuring the rule of law, and a constant commitment to peace and friendship with all countries. In the new Constitution, the development of human capital, education, science, and innovation is recognized as a strategic priority. For the first time, our Basic Law includes a provision on the protection of personal data, including digital privacy. Additionally, a separate article on the legal profession has been added," the President said.
He also noted that five constitutional laws were recently signed in Kazakhstan to implement the provisions of the Constitution. Amendments have been made to more than 70 codes and laws. Elections to the Kurultai will take place in August, and the composition of the Qazaqstan Halyq Keñesi will be formed.
"Overall, the public administration system will be completely modernized," the President concluded.
The Head of State also spoke about the extensive work being done to reform the judicial and law enforcement sectors.
The Chairman of the Supreme Court of Kazakhstan, Aslambek Mergaliev, also addressed the meeting.
