Tengrinews.kz – President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said that tourism development in Kazakhstan is lagging behind. He called on people not to follow the critics.
"This is a task that requires an urgent solution. Tourism should become a new point of economic growth. We are lagging behind here, the results of our work are not very good," the President said at an extended government meeting.
According to him, there are attractive tourist spots in every region of the country. Foreign and domestic tourists want to visit unique nature reserves, so it is necessary to urgently start building the necessary infrastructure, including with the involvement of private investors.
"We cannot follow the lead of people who are hostile to any measures to strengthen the investment potential of the tourism sector, as happened with the famous Bozzhyra tract in the Mangistau region.
The government and regional authorities must take more decisive measures to improve the business climate. It is no coincidence that I put the problem of attracting investment into the economy in first place. This is a matter of strategic importance, its solution will largely predetermine the future of our economy and Kazakhstan's place on the world map," the Head of State concluded.
